“ More Troubling “ by Suzán Jiván Mom & Mom-Mom Suzán...
by Suzán Jiván
Mom & Mom-
Mom Suzán
More troubling
multiple summaries
potentially damaging
like tightly tracked
access to malware
with tricky challenges
revealing all the gaps
soon thereafter
as understated grisly details
in podcasts
of screwball romances
and stylish assassins
streamed in
as viral ads by a foot-dragging
bandwidth hit man
posting, “How to get out of jail
in high fashion” getting masked
like a trying task that’s wearing
as a shimmying dancer
embodying the old razzle-dazzle
while carefully parenting in sweatpants...

“ Storming “ ...
by Suzán Jiván
Mom & Mom-
Mom Suzán
Storming
under siege
re-assuring
legacies
receiving
blunt warnings
creating
timely vacancies
seen as second
opportunities
like simple majorities
stirring unease
leading
to worrying
yet still conceding
to nothing
increasing
sun sensitivities
feeling somewhat giddy
due to uncanny abilities
to detect new inklings
of emerald greens
perceived upon celestial
altarpieces
from second-row seats
while smiling impassively
and whispering lovingly...

“ A Clash “ ...
by Suzán Jiván Mom
& Mom-Mom Suzán
A clash is expected
under the influence
of residual mysteries
for once and for all,
“All for one
and one for all”
buzzing with energy
having abandoned
far-flung kvetches
upon entering eternal rests
where, “All are welcome “
choruses playing overhead
“Come and get it!”
overall effectiveness
gently held together
softer textures
gentler hand gestures
footsteps
delicately ancestral...

“ Set to Tilt “ ...
by Suzán Jiván
Mom & Mom-
Mom Suzán
Set to tilt into the parlor
having once been promised
to get “the nod”
on anthropological constants
of “ probably nots”
being deemed too quarrelsome
top to bottom as somewhat startling
mamas’ and papas’
“Of course nots! Now stop it!”
while running down
like tick tock tick tocks
in cubic yards...
“ In the Air “ ...
by Suzán Jiván
Mom & Mom-
Mom Suzán
In the air
easy on the eye
yet highly volatile
like e-commerce giants
commanding attention
nefariously nesting
in deadwood as script central
capturing turbulence
due to deceased prospects
having deadened the senses
being subjected
to ethereal developments
of blistering pyrotechnics
called, “retro echoes”...

“ It Is Early Mourning “ ...
by Suzán Jiván
Mom & Mom-
Mom Suzán
It is early mourning
whistling softly
for moral support
“No, not at all
and not for long -
I’d rather see
talented people
doing something new”
debuting music
sparkling wine
thwacking drums
music for couples
loving one another
newly wonderful...

“ Clearing Their Throats” ...
by Suzán Jiván Mom & Mom-Mom Suzán
Clearing their throats almost inaudibly
hands on foreheads in the front yard
here’s my report card with pails and mops
straw-blonde looking hard for coats of arms
worn on garments with stand-up collars
over my dead body blind beggars with guitars
strumming, “Yes Papa - Love My Mama”plucking sharply...
“ Most Everybody “ ...
by Suzán Jiván Mom & Mom-Mom Suzán
Most everybody gets all worked up
by “I don’t know what!”
while flying in the face of custom
in a mighty public way
being treated very funnily lately
“Why is that important anyway?”
sort of like making a strawberry phosphate
in celebration of standing against a wall waiting
in anticipation of grave silences across the stage
musingly saying, “There’s much to say
about a wedding day seated in the last
row of the congregation babies on laps
as plain as day as yet unnamed hearing
hours striking very plainly...
“ A Ghostly Authority “ ...
by Suzán Jiván
Mom & Mom-
Mom Suzán
A ghostly authority
spewing imagery
rarely leaving a mark
recoiling in horror
curators artists
overarchingly
strongest by far
uncanny oranges
influences of Brahms
held in high honor
condensed harmony
out-of-character
tragi-comedy monologues...

“ Leading Watchdogs “ ...
by Suzán Jiván
Mom & Mom-
Mom Suzán
Leading watchdogs
dropping proxies
re-opening hostilities
sought by both parties
ultimately between
you and me
missing opportunities
under conditions
of anonymity
gambling with reality
speaking publically
dotting windfarms
igniting sparks
over deathbed squabbles
as the worst part
of the bizarre newly departed
unlocked despondency...

“Trepidation”...
by Suzán Jiván
Mom & Mom-
Mom Suzán
Trepidation
of late players
sowing uncertainty
curtailing chances
continuing travails
dampening days after
the crash as inaudible gasps
proctoring tropical plants
a top palpable hot air
existing here there
and everywhere
hot lava crawling
masterfully played off
by the choruses
of the regally
and severely gorgeous
angelic hoards above scores
of marble-floored crematoriums...

“ Broadly Appealing “ ...
by Suzán Jiván Mom & Mom-Mom Suzán
Broadly appealing “How could It not be?”
after all, it’s about the human body
speaking figuratively mixing not-new
and old from the beginning to end
built-in like gender and identity
like filtered light in silhouette
while leaving fleeting impressions
of “ Never Better” minimal gesturing
amplifying pleasurable symptoms
put all together
having a skeleton-
relevant questioning
interweaving delicate
threads into sleds
irrespective of gender
pitch and smoothness
presumably
yielding improvement
by prescribing solutions
rooted in the platitudes
of ill-suited loosey-goosey
feel-good do-gooders
versus grandiose human
planning being accused
of undoing previous ingenuity
leading to the disembodying
of all meaning while falling
just short of irrational rebukes
as protuberant universal disputes
due to the reconstitution
of hemorrhagic abuse...

“Placed” ...
by Suzán Jiván
Mom & Mom-
Mom Suzán
Placed squarely
among the walrus-like
cross hairs
of a gray mustache
preparing to ignore
the revolving doors
of a cadre of lawyers
having moved well outside
of the counsel of the court
while underperforming
with fingers crossed
all without warning
upon receiving
skimpy sartorial support
from a flimsy love story
feeling neglected
yet impeccably well read
being artificially resurrected
by reconfigured elements
expressed as requisite
red-carpeted entrances
of unexpected
late-arriving guests
still looking “fab”
in their period “glad rags”
emanating vivid magnetism
striking aristocratic glamour
poses now seen as “down pat”
making you feel like slow dancing
prevailing swelling violins be damned
deemed, “too flashy”
for swing saxes of jazz
keeping lost amour intact
sentimentally stepping back
into espousal time travel...

“ Taking the Lead “ ...
by Suzán Jiván Mom & Mom-Mom Suzán
Taking the lead after hunkering
down into a long long dormancy
having felt under siege for years and years
due to horrific loss and grief
being compounded season by season
bleeding green eyes wincing
jaws gritting spirits plummeting
pondering honoring home team sweet spots
flashing neon phenomenons
revelations that rock like wild cards
having gone off the charts
surging seas of green confetti flying...

" The Unstoppable "...
by Suzán Jiván Mom & Mom-Mom Suzán
The unstoppable gone wild with nerdy highs
seen at high speed on touch screens
along with the cordial cherries
of science and technologies
via teams of geeks for really really fast people
not fretting the inevitability of underpinnings
from inefficiencies in the way you always dreamed
over years and years completely re-imagined
at full capacity capable of withstanding
new-dangled demands in command
torpedoes be damned saved by savvy spacecrafts
with the "it" factors for the families of man
like the niftiest of gadgets managing
humanoid mannequins minus the fallacies
of misspelled "tweets" being robbed of abilities
fairly recently all being spelled so differently
becoming blurred with worry month-to-month
on training runs gone undercover seeing double
feeling indestructible with questions popping up
dubbed "phantom" results all aflutter running
out of luck time's up unlimited bursting bubbles
gone asunder clunking custom backcountry
chasing each other rather dull acting dumb
at stiffening junctures feeling crushed
under redundancy infrared goggling
from back to front mixing tracks collapsing...

" In More " ...
In more ways than you may think
as celebrity ghost tweeeters no one else can see
like eliminating re-gifting it's just whiskey
keeping it real while rising below zero
being intrigued by "the unique" calling it "SWEET!"
staying naturally germy yet dissing tsunamis
with black varnish over fiber optics
facing felony charges "Thou shalt not shop!"
equipped with credit cards and a jargon watch
with pressing problems from fossils
lacking progress emptying pockets
wrecking the economy off the clock
with web polymers for nanobots
that mimic neurons and synapses
of virtual teaching not worrying
about accuracy and facts
being shared automatically
and really really fast--exactly
swapping tales in the fast
lane of the break room not bad
just friggin' multi-taskin' with a hatchet
plus spray-on snow as fat in a can
done in the lab to scale...

" New Trends " ...
by Suzán Jiván Mom & Mom-Mom Suzán
New trends in peel-off addresses deemed, "non-sticky"
and immediately packable offer valid before and after
transparency of implants in greater detail for oral cancer awareness
responding to masked pathogens better stronger faster software
enhancements as well-formatted cad/cams for chairside bur wear
multi-stranded optical glass contacts
for tooth anatomy facilitating scanning
why travel for licensure exams?
it takes two to tango for apex locations
that eliminate false readings by edge sequels
with controlled memory plus ergonomic excellence
no ledging or hedging of bets via "Diadent"
as well as greater independent retention
having achieved definitive cleansing
during premiere conventions expressing
rational closing comments in a well-attended
dental setting replete with technique-sensitive
connective tissue cells with greater regenerative effects
as skill-set potentials simultaneously addressing

" A Slim Victory "...
by Suzán Jiván Mom & Mom-Mom Suzán
A slim victory a warning no red lines
while struggling to reconcile the sharply divided
facing harsh lighting crying, " My Obit Will Be Fine!"
in a dimming twilight seeing bright colors in shorter lines
being squeezed in the skies fuller cabins higher fees
flying standby, "Don't even try it!"
"Running is the most effective exercise
for extending life spans" researchers find
behind a cuddly accent and the curvature of space-time
in riotous real time networked and mobilized
with luxury and style like the busiest and brightest
"It's a single malt that started it all!"
by counting calories as crowd control
for trillion-dollar shadows of singing joking
goofballs deemed: "suborbitalsnowballingknowitalls"
ticking off progress reports hawking rewards

" The Final Peace "...
by Suzán Jiván Mom & Mom-Mom Suzán
The final peace of a secret unleashing
with speed and muscle helmet plus backbone
" I got your back--I'm packing an airbag!"
while mimicking an alien marked:
"No trespassing! Fragile! Handle with Care!"
skeptically supernatural pooh-poohing paranormalcy
by making you think of clouded industries
particularly seeking to "Be Green" crowds cheering:
"Rock On!" in self-driving cars sometimes called, " Black Swans "

" This stuff isn't spam it's metastasizing faster"
reading the caption, " For a sad sad man being denied access

due to Geiger counters going off off of campuses
non-interaction classes cancelled gaining yottabytes of data
under hard hats following Pearl Harbor in the process
for underwear bombers beneath swaths of freezing fog

for eavesdroppers constantly claiming, "NO COMMENT!"

" Finding the Poetry"...
by Suzán Jiván Mom
& Mom-Mom Suzán
Finding the Poetry in terms of feet
plus acceptances of herbal essences
dancers turning their heads
in different directions of orchestral
colors swimming arabesques
legs outstretched male/female duets
combining aspects of abracadabras plus pizazz for daredevils
blasting fresh air in order to raise awarenesses
scribbling on napkins becoming nearly drowned out
assessing damages of overall attitudes
palpable shame and embarrassment
like low-end passengers in steady downward trajectories
trying to improve on metrics as prices get better
with little incentive being denounced as "reprehensible"
by the arts of repentance for all kinds of offenders
yet protecting sincerity via shrinking paychecks
for finance experts deemed "necessary"
in order to reform themselves
lacking in amenities
plus tech-abetted
friendlinesses
on most metrics

" How?" ...
How to borrow tactics via floods of cash
by chief strategists of personal finances
enriching anti-establishment activists
coming through as "Super PACS"
in internal matters now re-examined
taking risky paths based on personality
rather than facts issued in the aftermath
upon the birth of five identical baby girls
the most famous on earth in murals and beadwork
with few words requiring work with brutal allure
uncurtained underseige all across the country
as seen in inmates' paintings eery glassily stringy
offhandedly questioning tenderly rocking
keeping calm never really forgotten
sentiments evolving seeking solace
as a stranger
among strangers
with each and every
funereal thing
during mourning
passing through portals
mortal far more
important historically
due to extraordinary faults
harmonized gloriously
admirably succinct
since the oblivion

of grandeur and lavishness
contrasting mixtures weeping cypresses
radiant skies an infant's smile...

" Translations "...
Translations laying the foundations of getting played and getting layed
via drastic purification along with the importance of concentrating
while being drastically rearranged making mechanical compilations
being abrogated in structure and organization doubtlessly originating
as transformations of nature baselessly claiming interpretations
of separation of church and state standing to gain greatly
allowed to escalate
as suspicious precipitation
combining operations
turning away from negotiation
refusing to pay united by hatred
impregnable capital appropriation
booty rather than consent
complex and far-reaching
baseis of themed armies
marching military aristocracy
asserting authority
capturing and sacking
winning of battles
striving implacably
rapid changes
of military magnates
harsh taxations

corrupt and ineffectual

"Clicking Away"...
by Suzán Jiván
Mom & Mom-

Clicking away
mind pinching
somewhat geeky
ghostly and goofy
by revelling in dread
along with deepest regrets
bickering and whimpering
booing in no laughing mood
being followed by heavy rebukes
from viewers exhibiting inked tattoos
as sleeves of tweaked orthodoxies
in piercing telegraphed beats
on strobing screens
pursuant to persistent warnings
drawing cheers in dissonant meters
after missing the atmospherics
upon upwelling arenas
of themes of ethics and duty...

A new permanent
Who you gonna call
upon stepping off
screened-in front porches
during mourning?
dryads and fauns toiling
oily watery means
of inspiring the quiet

into fading Milky Ways
deeply baying
ably maintaining
strength and grace...

In equal measure

like drywall repairs
enmeshed with scandal

An incoherent growl
most apparent
tile-backed
concrete barriers
wooden pallets
wheelbarrows
of paperbacks
dating way back

on blood-soaked grounds
blooming ghost-like flowers
vehicles of abstraction re-imagined
paint-splattered raggedy social fabrics
also known as dehumanizing schematics...

" Slamming Shut "...
by Suzán Jiván
Mom & Mom-

Slamming shut
digging in
brushing aside stirrings
of pageantry
and ceremonial meetings
reading, "NO VACANCY"
suddenly seeming unseemly
primeval and surreal
experiencing extreme misery
while lying beneath
underpinnings of cruel feats
from sharp-shinned strategies
clinching double-digit victories
racking up wins
toughening resistances
in miniature
heading into recess
with imaginary friends
as a premise
becoming hugely successful
minus any visual evidence

in danger in every
destination
all in the space
of three separate pages

mock alarm
subplots

Forward thinking
unofficially slippery

"Tapping Into Nature"...

Tapping into nature
linear planes
floating into space
fluctuating
like otherworldly names
of precisely painted faces
clearer than wall labels
skipping across roll calls

just after
final glances
thinking carefully
gaining access
to outlying pairs
proceeding
hand-in-hand
across "sir"
planted pastures...

Bobbing shapes of color

Recursive

inimitable
symbiotic gigs
living by supple
wits of coincidence
real and fictional
draining and filling
tightening the grips
of muscular hybrids
while skipping ahead a bit
as lissome spirits of artifice
even handedly hanging back

speeding up
increasingly serious
long-separated couples
being star driven

Refusing to condemn
eye-numbingly complex
stick-to-itiveness
as slivers of defensiveness
feeling like tremors
of the body electric
by herculean technology bots
via ocular boondoggles
of persistent nonsense
likened to revolving
phenomenology
yet still sounding
a bit giggly
being considered
the crowning jewels
of fashion shoots
by breaking the rules
of the better suited
shouting the news,

bad luck
coming in from others
having given up

feeling shaken up
single and young
falling in love
"I got ya covered!"
in the aftermath
brushed back hair

on a large scale
of only half

capable of vastness
hung over a cloud

Holes in the safety net
found unsafe
due to prolonged contamination
in scores of places
as after-hours deliberation and debate
for opposing candidates
in complete disarray
over the decades
in worse shape
having been repatriated
under highways
beneath leaden pipes
being likened to dynasties
from the mainstream
free flowing in invisible inks
heading deeper
into fleeting prominency
like last-minute-last-ditch
courtship among other things
more fretting laboratory tests
federally approved levels
unsettled by experts
in red letters of meanspiritedness
ricocheting down stairwells
someone wailing, "Stand down!"
rolling out well-read passages
like revised tests in a general sense
problem percentages glimpses of dread
more substantial than ever
wondering whether
abnormally small heads
are a consequence
"Don't get pregnant!"
immunity will build
to a parasitic paralysis
by breaking its backs
with panicky strategies
bent for quelling infectious diseases
during high transmission seasons
due to mosquito breeding
buzzes of evening
while lending ears during analyses
by deep deprived colleagues
as a far cry from neuroscience at midnight
being prewired like a false very tired
under a rarely definable deadline
arbitrarily oversimplified
eye to eye sensory deprived
like the spoiler recap that's snatched away
by a herky-jerky big bad wolf in a gray
hoodie and handlebar mustache
tapped fortuitously taking a gamble
bored 'n' unhappy grannies of percussive sass
wearing flippers and a snorkel mask
minimal but canny after creating snags
unlikely to be surpassed
while donning blocky sunglasses
in a breakdance
engagingly distractable
heart-grabbing children and parents
being far surpassed by a noise-making app
off-kilter swervings into underworlds
of frazzled nerves being winched
taut or slacked, "Don't ask!"
quiet and offhand
like the unsentimental candor
of raising cash through prayer
with unfolded hands
well within grasp
tense times with grampy
striped and spotted for concealment
associating peaceably heavy black streaks
thin grey bands in small packages
high-pitched screams
long series of, "kik kik kik kik kik"
common in lowlands spotty in highlands
sooty black habitats of grasslands
singly or in pairs gliding in open air...
"Doled Out"...
by Suzán Jiván
Mom & Mom-
Mom Suzán
Doled out
from the outset
like charismatic anthems
as sung by enthusiastic chorals
at iconoclastic fairs
seeking to outdo outcasts
on the low down
for output
pulling back
from a brutal past
stepping down
after lashing out
gaining muscle mass
of unattractiveness
like less fat
trimmed by half
based on dietary allowance
of incinerated pounds...

"Even the Locals"...
by Suzán Jiván
Mom & Mom-
Mom Suzán
Even the locals
aren't particularly close
like controverts untold
hands on shoulders
over timeworn headstones
at undisclosed locations
in scenes just blocks away
like kilned potter's graves
radiating halos
as emitted brain waves
at birth places
with top rankings
well past the cut-off stage...

"Holding Sentencing"...
by Suzán Jiván
Mom & Mom-
Mom Suzán
Holding sentencing
"Sweetheart,
get me readers!"
via social media
as practiced
by the digitally savvy
while gathering steam
during water-poisoning crises
being perceived as "pandering"
to crucial clicks
seen as "cringeworthy"
at its best, "murky"...

Laid-Back Grandeur"...
by Suzán Jiván
Mom & Mom-
Mom Suzán
Laid-back grandeur
logoed shoulder bags
tanned leather straps
specialty packed
for high-fashion
monogrammed canvas
flying sailing keepall bags
exploring tramping
grooved trails
malleable late romance
given over to chance...
"Reconnected Realms"
by Suzán Jiván
Mom & Mom-
Mom Suzán
Reconnected realms
played for execs
as vintage demos
of warped parodies
on synthesized screens
like elusive "zigga-zigga" ideals
going handsprings across vinyl
for Musketeers and blind mice
all in double time...

Watching the Aforementioned
by Suzán Jiván
Watching the aforementioned
seesawing between
bigness and intimacy
in a life-sized silent movie
with a smattering
of computer graphics
while making room
for the future
of taxidermy
with few gaps
of channeling
chills up my spine
with a gentleman in profile
like an abolitionist
in stained white marble archives
etched in vintage firm cursive
with a notable churn
not yet determined
by early research
on countless
stenciled barrels
of unparalleled
sour mash...

A Tentative Willingness
by Suzán Jiván
A tentative willingness
after pledging to deliver
an impenetrable detection
at the mid level
of serious presences
by betting heavily on surprising sets
of suspects as nothing less
than human attempts
to comprehend first steps
with a reference to dust settling
across continents
as exacting measurements
when millennia
intersect at sunset
packed with celestially
feckless pilgrims themselves...

Finicky Beings
by Suzán Jiván
Finicky beings
after 15 years
of holography
as a laser beam is split
like something akin
to a red-light district
where ear hair is visible
for hyper realists
spying behind
louvered blinds...

After Lending Themselves
by Suzán Jiván
After lending themselves
to generous selections
of the more interesting
festive eras of decadence
as less likely ingratiation
and more than likely disintegration
of social change churned away
least inspired and highly derided
iced over commissions of suicide
bearing a collar like scar
after felling mahogany
and secretly recoiling
between weeping
and prying while trying
to let the word get out...

Featuring Stout Trees: Haiku Series
by Suzán Jiván
Featuring stout trees
more or less interesting
popping up on streets
as cicadas sing,
"That may be a funny thing"
in summer seasons
over the city
curvy, knobby head beauties
as necessities
temporarily
riddle-solved calamities
seemingly cheesy
like mad cow disease
in tacky metallic green
filmed as elderly
modern history
teased from molten beginnings
whimsically glib
ghostly white linen
materially driven
faint equivalents...

Appreciate the Acuity
by Suzán Jiván
Appreciate the acuity
mostly strangely
by skipping the stadium
while on the plain
of greatly differing situations
like newly created public faces
of upfront presentations
in arrays of entertainment
as excellent as modern slang
diddling with noble ranks
in a contagion of graces...

Knowing the Place
by Suzán Jiván
Knowing the place
urged to stay
staking claims
calendar calculated
deeply in brains
marking initial phases
of migration
by plunging into the main
cobblestone lane
as wolf populations
mimic the behavior
of colored lasers
making their way
to inflatable egg layers
roughly translated as dog days...

Sticking Around
by Suzán Jiván
Sticking around
sufficiently off balance
as war re-enactors
with extravagant
over-reactions
to nothing tangible
like newly shorn hair
taking short
cuts across
ordinary streets
while slithering
at a good clip
with creepily real-
life sheer extremities...

Is it Impossible to Watch?
by Suzán Jiván
Is it impossible to watch
a somewhat crotchety codger
as a silver fox of chaos?
entombed in pickle jars
with much of the heart
put on like armor for robots
toddling with mildewy copies
of comics looming large
with subplots of the improbable
dead set against preposterous stardom
being turned on by lopsided nostrils
even if they be slightly creepy
in creature-features on family TV
like blustery bubble-gum pink bullies
themed as nubby tactility
with idiosyncratic tics strapped in...

Specializing in Tipping
by Suzán Jiván
Specializing in tipping
while making a difference
by affixing twists
hinged on the familiar
of the critically witty
taking a nip
studded with multiple utterances
overheard with considerable cynicism
without warning signals
as anonymously mischievous
masked women thumbprint
firm mattresses
tracked down
to the outskirts
in irascible crowds
coerced into pushing around
rusted-out wheelbarrows
making squeaking sounds...

Battles with the Simple
by Suzán Jiván
Battles with the simple
mired in unwindable
sectarian strife minus alliances
while moseying over
to day-old donations
in outbreaks of ancient havens
as perambulations
beneath aerial spraying
take place at daybreak...

Tensions in Bids
by Suzán Jiván
Tensions in bids
not only solicited
as big winners
of energy initiatives
contradicted
by little interest
in egg-headed strategists
being scrambled by activism
overcrowded by huge amounts
with aversions to taxes
no longer stagnant
almost automatic
comparatively lenient
while struggling to keep
a common currency
officially shifted...

As a Big Test
by Suzán Jiván
As a big test of an increasing presence
leveling off, then ticking up again
within the vetting of potential
vice presidents
while magnates of mandates
roil with anger
in vicious campaigns
throughout battleground states
as vapid passages of the past
are unable to last
against a vast amassing
of faulty software packages...

The Unknown Gobi
by Suzán Jiván
The unknown Gobi
once housed
monks now
only ghosts
leading loaded
camels over
plateaus
pressing passed
water made salty
glittering
with vermilion
for visitors
while motioning
to sit
gesturing toward
clinging cliff
sparrows'
mud-pelletted
colonies of nests...

Detector Buoys
by Suzán Jiván
Detector buoys
track the movements of tsunamis
triggered by red dots
as violent earthquakes rocked
setting whole oceans in motion
along faults buried deeply
beneath the seafloor
some long dormant
within reports of multi-story
shelters under construction
painful for a culture
as a flock of white doves
flutters above the rubble
beneath wave-swept bubbles
blown by hundreds
of thousands of others
as the party broke up
with the wrenching
and tearing of muscles...

Deeply Split
by Suzán Jiván
Deeply split
over the distance
in fragments
with tidbits
of the unfamiliar
as the modern
equivalent
of nothing much
creating cults
of reluctancy
tacitly admitting
that beauty
is everything
after fleeing
hyperbole
with damningly
unflattering
accuracy
sarcastically
brandished
as fabricated
agony
sidesplittingly
inflicted
as seen fit...

A Trash Transfer
by Suzán Jiván
A trash transfer
as a prime example
of a black banner
above a sun-
burned commander
having taken action
in unilateral capacities
slung like a sledgehammer
busted up in regular runs
to the ultimate dump
with a malfunctioning
claw in front
of mind-numbing
corruption run amok...

Shifted Allegiances
by Suzán Jiván
Shifted allegiances
with short-term interest
plus a debated stimulus
being backed by billions
shuffling
and pivoting
in searches
and seizures
while forming
far-reaching
agreements
with joysticks
and leashes
for hand-picked
conspiracies
exacting
accountability
by expecting
to plead guilty
after overseeing
alter egos...

Hints of the Past
by Suzán Jiván, Mom
& Mom-Mom Suzán
for Rebecca, Russ
Kenny, Jimmy
Mark, Danielle & Eric...
Hints of the past
written as last
glances backwards
while quickly slipping
on glassy timbres
as viscerally driven rhythms
on all-round instruments
played down as thrills
for under three minutes...
An Incantation
by Suzán Jiván
An incantation
ripped from the pages
more like an escape
usually taking place
in wealthy enclaves
of performance space
behind the stage
as an adaptation
to enchanting chambers
being overtaken
causing sensations
of domination
precariously dangled
while telling me
not to be afraid
of chord changes
in smart arrangements
being poured across door frames
in discordant ports-of-call...

Beauty Undeterred Haiku
by Suzán Jiván
Beauty undeterred
technology advances
like multitasking
As somewhat austere
with equal efficiency
aesthetic lives spanned
Spent completely dead
capriciously decrepit
tossed as a torn net
Artists reflections
surprising resurrections
rejected subjects
Run-down boundaries
historical artifacts
shabbily gathered
Values modern trends
multicast as blasphemous
while whistle blasts pass...

Clearly a Wellspring
by Suzán Jiván
Clearly a wellspring
seeming to bleed
somewhat indiscriminately
more specifically from the cheeks
as dizzyingly intricate
monochromatic splinterings
in ectoplasmic grids
masked by schematics
emphatically done to scale
shattered like wax-sealed glass
stained by leaks in the ceiling...

Gained by Their Brazen
by Suzán Jiván
Gained by their brazen
assassination
of rethinking strategies
for throngs of refugees
hunting for split tickets
with an indoor roar
from the meat-
packing district
like a waitress's lips
amplified by thin
tin ceilings
as far less hospitable
hemispherical
eyewitnesses
of austere exhibitions
moving quickly
half jokingly
ending up
at Ground Zero
eating sugar-
coated crow...

Deep and Often Masked
by Suzán Jiván
Deep and often masked
with a willingness
to unbuilt fiscal cliffs
as cuts kick in
signaling shifts
cloaked in vetting
and even hecklers
while keeping selections
from leaking out
of far-flung towns
seeking clarity
for the necessities of presses
while under the influence
of those who fled seminaries
like ultra-orthodox men
gathering as previously scheduled...

Unnerved Art World
by Suzán Jiván
Unnerved art world
not going to work
in irrelevant searches
with unfailing accuracy
having had
your instincts scrambled
by unexpected ease
reconciled by all manners and means
in real time
being concocted by watches
as cinematic objects of apology
detained on charges...

In the Long Run
by Suzán Jiván
In the long run
sporting puzzles
of short-lived bids
with the chances to pick
red pens in milliseconds
as safety nets...

Vegetal, Animal & Cellular
by Suzán Jiván
Vegetal, animal & cellular
intimately reflected
held together
with the eccentricities
of acid-edged
diaristic elements
scrawled across doors
in simple forms
undernourished
and malformed
with ham-handed flare
receding and advancing
as primordial warriors
in granular cores
of smoky quartz
wearing wreaths
of bas-relief
as sly asides
pale and glasslike
in a field of battle
baring
porcelain plaques
explained
by oddly pointless
wall labels
at the end
of a parade
grinding away
getting a remake
that goes without saying
seemingly taking pains
to demonstrate spontaneity
with clean lines of legs
texturally lightweight
and highly unlikely
to stop in a dime
as in pastimes
at double-time
while fireworks ignite...

Done in Pastels
by Suzán Jiván
Surrounded by Legos
and 3-year olds
as the latest salvo
with attention focused
on the healthy
images of apples
in fairly large amounts
not turning brown
just branching out
the choreography was problematic
when choosing to mount
expandable categories
in fabric patterns
after looking for gaps
formed to the point
of exhaustion
as small drawings
like never before
having been crossed
where nature left off
no larger than the palm of a hand
after crossing the Atlantic
and becoming blanched
by a blasted landscape
of previously unimagined
eyelet patterns
honed as unknowable
knowns of no one
supposedly broached
like patterns of stones
opulently set
without exception
into cultural gems
projected into absentia
lending works
from the permanent collection
always performance ready
done in pastels
as father knows best
in orgiastic protests
seemingly vanished
amped up on canvases
in barrier crashing
recent examples
clashing on polka
dotted paths
of the pretty bad...

A Once Bustling
by Suzán Jiván
A once bustling
gold rush
seemingly
self-possessed
nonetheless
getting ready
to go steady
after pressing, "play"
swiftly rotating
with a lot at stake
on the turn table
of middle age
belied by
breathtakingly
brief freewheelings
becoming strangely
wayward as spiraling layers
of simulated animation
oscillating like diamond
needles skipping on vinyl...
Beat on the Lower Screen
by Suzán Jiván
Beat on the lower screen
after switching to the first person
by lifting and hurling earlier versions
right through the wringer
with running themes
of antiseptic athletes
grasping germs of ideas
while jolting their very
own joysticks forward
simulating tedium
stripped of routines
mostly involving
feats of fingerings
attempting to bring
frenetic activity
to palm readings
like whiskbroom-
wielding neat freaks...

Sugar Snap Peas
by Suzán Jiván
Sugar snap peas
in reverse polarity
albeit briefly
while feeling wonky
in hard-core comics
as corporate robotics
manipulate objects
with benign sabotage
flipped sideways
all visuals aside
as overly compliant
like old slang
for ripening agents
in stalemates
near death
in a snowbank
while waiting
for a date...
Scandal Stirs Scrambling
by Suzán Jiván
Scandal stirs scrambling
in a tricky clash
with a history of ailments
for less-fortunate masses
that roar and clap
on behalf of apathy
becoming damaged
as volunteers backed
by cantankerous rancor
in a so-called slow zone
for child soldiers
as fear-maddened animals
being trapped in class actions
of stop and frisk while being
deviously disguised
by climbing bougainvillea vines
intertwining across shiny
concertina wire in a double life
of hit-and-miss patio bug killers...

Forages Individually
by Suzán Jiván
Forages individually
but dens communally
as the largest carnivore
stocky build, head broad
monopolizing breeding
rearing offspring
tending, grooming
long curved
digging claws
massive jaws
running along
leaping about
tree branches
and the tangles
of creepers
in tall leafy trees
eating wild
and cultivated fruits
consuming seeds
poisonous to humans...

Art Deco Sets
by Suzán Jiván
Art Deco Sets
remembered well
as even better
when sounding sexy
coming close to straight down
immersed in the period
taking years to complete
in large-scale vicarious
fine-grained detail
built from scratch with majesty
where opposites attract
as candidly imagined
dramatically powerful
unpleasant tasks
on which to hang dances
scarcely mattering
with fewer big chances
like purity of stance
hands raised in a halo...

Stirred by an Ardent Celebration
by Suzán Jiván
Stirred by an ardent celebration
filling the whole stage space
while gesturing radiantly
from varying angles
strikingly isolated
dampened by tamped-down hues
where statues once stood
down agonizing channels
streaming past
detached personalities
murmuring and groaning
tantalizingly close
as underlying emotions
grown decades old...

Still Inching
by Suzán Jiván
Still inching
following the leader
tempering ingredients
of essential meanings
minus the lurching
while ambling through
much to do
about the bedroom
as pivotal and discreet
by warming and softening
like halting whinnies
getting up to speed
in recurring themes...

Agreed to Plead
by Suzán Jiván
Agreed to plead
as top-seeded
margins of victory
with wide-ranging chatter
expanding higher and faster
as the poor land in jail
with questionable answers
in endangered ice caps
beginning to grapple
at diplomatic impasses
of time and mortality
through vital passages
run by portfolio managers
failing to beat the averages
as long-planned practices
of political animals
favoring questionable actions...

Just Off the Tarmac
by Suzán Jiván
Just off the tarmac
cheaper locales
colorful banners
reconsidered tactics
overseeing assets
opening hatches
sawing through ceilings
odds-beating earlier years
jumping breathlessly
through the centuries
beaming with titular dignity
positioned in the middle
comparably ambitious
fanfares and riffs
rhythmic contents
virtual intelligence...
Winters in Conifers

Evening Out
by Suzán Jiván
Made of folded steel
encased in concrete
overcoated by black stucco
in an upstairs space
evening out
in a house plan
with fragments
of get aways
cast in place
exposing the ancient
adjacent separations
weaving through medieval
alleyways like past days
masquerading as today
within ill-placed stairways
and constrained layouts
at the risk of collapse
in unmitigated layers
right in the historic core
along with a cannon ball
replete with its bomb shards
in oak and terra cotta
redesigned by desire
found outside on site
while dining
beneath a climbing
white wisteria vine...

Conceived with Live in Mind
by Suzán Jiván
Conceived with live rounds in mind
unconfined by ideals in headlines
far beyond far-fetched plot lines
sometimes like mime
coming out of hiding
as highly stylized, slyly designed
skyscraper-to-skyscraper zip lines
subverting to rivals
far more disquieting, holding fire...

Fiscally Frisky Haiku

Atomized Haiku
by Suzán Jiván
I
Intimate, compact
dreamily blurry pictures
atomized, flattened
II
Over the shoulder
shedding light, social circles
remains hard to say
III
Crusty, granular
shadowy haze fills the space
stiffly official
IV
White-striped black teacups
well-pedigreed possessions
decompressed presence
V
Glue-based distemper
obvious, consequential
rich and indolent
VI
Inches by inches
the biggest pieces
fenced in leafless trees...

Greater Visibility Haiku
by Suzán Jiván

Ageless innocence
greater visibility

Whomever happens
stylistically inventive
as a honeyed drawl
III
Elfin sidelong grin
while pickling the literal
with long fuzzy ears
IV
Imbibing bitters
a certain amount of risk

V
Bruising and intense
amiable urgency
no small achievement...

Hair-Metal Haiku
by Suzán Jiván

Jukebox turned junky
insipidly hand wringing
high hopes, low prospects
II
Forgotten events
a little bit hair-metal
bearable sidekicks
III
The cultural fray
self-cannibalization
mostly without shame
IV
Whispering, writhing
X-rated society
seek to replicate
V
Enunciation
uncharacteristic heat
stale body routines
VI
Real-life analogue
token of diversity
neo-Puritan...

Late Winter, Warm Spells Haiku
by Suzán Jiván
I
In the minds of babes
seeming both deeply engaged

Plants forearms, hands clasped
parted hair down the middle
straight to the infant
III
Happening within
a welling up from the depths
fossil collections
IV
As assemblages
including bottom-dwellers
helmet-like front shells
V
Matching upward trends
including bottom-dwellers
late winter, warm spells...

Grievously Clear
by Suzán Jiván
Homes in various corners
always been the all-important
headquarters sought
all because of places or origin
freewheeling, interlocking
lengthening, compelling
clicking, scratching, tapping
expressed as tactful parallels
with implicitly tragical impacts
underpinned with timbres
alternately abrasive
sweetly meditative
grievously clear...

Drinking in Art
by Suzán Jiván
Drinking in art
along with light
greatly admired
like heightened
colors over time
with no concession
to distance
slightly diminished
by the last minutes
while reaching
instinctively
towards the intensely
physical
as diarists and antagonists
staring at flashing neon
like everyday objects
bringing to mind the bizarre
as both a prologue and an encore
an ordinary nobody
finding a sidekick
like a refugee
while inventing
a series
of moronic doubles
in mega-gags
without comic aptitude
nonetheless being excluded
by hard-hitting news
while walking upright
and mis-using tools
as distinctly human
and profoundly moving...

Wild-Eyed Haiku
by Suzán Jiván
I
Before going home
attempts to reassemble
vague remembrances
II
As retrospectives
oddest and most exotic
like ardent artists
III
All-around aesthetes
eager for art and gossip
hung on every word
IV
Immigrants ourselves
addressing mysticism
working with figures
V
Seated and standing
in fidgety renderings
of reinvention
VI
Tastes change quite a bit
attesting to preferences
wild-eyed, splayed painters...

Swimming in the Sea
by Suzán Jiván
Swimming in the sea
occupying the bottom floors
slated to stay open
by staying under the radar
as a finished product
outstandingly larger-than-life
whole rows behind
especially outrageous
like latecomers turning the tables
seemingly incapable
and mostly exasperating
as so many mad fancies
cogently dramatic
outstripped by linear simplicity
while sinking slowly
into thick quicksand as a running gag...
