Two-Toned

" Two-Toned "

by Suzán Jiván

Boldly
in the open
on Poles
bright rufous
shoulders
juvenile
wing-linings
thighs
streaked down
below narrow
two-toned
scarce and local
visible only
in display
puffed up
rapidly
drumming
wing
thumping
"cluck"
rusty rump
sharp, "chik"
harsh, " check"
red-bellied distended
upended on head
chattering rattle
ladder-backed
white patch
red cap
cactus canyon
barred on back
black-capped
carrion
overlapping
black bib
whining, wheezy
"Deer-Deeer
Deee-Deeer
Deee-Deeer"...
